Baltimore Orioles To Be Recognized For Work With Casey Cares

Posted: Nov 18, 2016

The Casey Cares Foundation is proud to announce that the Baltimore Orioles will be honored at the 2016 Mayor's Business Recognition Award luncheon on December for their work with the families and critically ill children from our organization.

The annual awards event, which is presented by the Greater Baltimore Committee, the Baltimore Development Corporation and the Mayor's Office, honors businesses for their outstanding corporate leadership, commitment to community and dedication to improving the quality of life in Baltimore City These businesses have engaged in specific activities or projects that have significantly benefitted the Baltimore community and are outside of the business’s regular mission or day-to-day work or activities of the business.

Virtually everyone in the Orioles organization has left an imprint on our programs and our families as employees in the box office, the front office and the grounds crew have supported our annual 5K Run/Walk at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, helped arrange game-day tickets for our families and provided extra experiences such as meeting players and attending batting practice. From Manager Buck Showalter to the Oriole Bird and everyone in between, the Orioles have been great teammates of ours and our families. Baltimore Orioles First Baseman Chris Davis and his wife, Jill, served as Race Ambassadors for our annual 5K, and Chris spent an afternoon at Extra Innings, a batting cage in Elkridge, Maryland, playing whiffle ball with our kids and their families.

"When a child is critically ill, the entire family – sisters, brothers, parents, grandparents – is impacted," said Casey Baynes, founder and executive director of Casey Cares. "While we do not cure cancer, or sickle cell disease or heart ailments, Casey Cares’ programs and uplifting activities are critical to the emotional well-being of our kids and families. We provide little moments and lasting memories to kids and families who need it most. And there is no better way to bring a smile to a family’s face than to take them out to the ballpark with the O’s!"

Casey Cares is all about creating little moments and lasting memories for critically ill kids and their families, and with the Orioles help, we have been able to make a lot of Oriole Magic happen.
