Critically Ill Children Get Behind-The-Scenes Tour at Preakness And Meet Kentucky Derby Winner Always Dreaming!

Posted: May 19, 2017

Casey Cares families got to horse around for a very special Sunrise Tour at famed Pimlico Race Course and even got a rare opportunity to meet the Kentucky Derby winning horse, Always Dreaming!

Thanks to Charles Fenwick, who invited our Casey Cares families for the second consecutive year to this event, our families spent the morning hearing from racing legend, Hall of Fame jockey and NBC sports broadcaster Jerry Bailey, touring the grounds of the Preakness, seeing the Clydesdales and jockeys' room and they got a peek at Always Dreaming!

Even our Pimlico tour guide was surprised when Terry Finley, president of West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc., and one of the minority owners of Always Dreaming brought our families over to meet the Kentucky Derby winner!

"That never happens," said our tour guide, Erica.

Well ... it happened!

For our families, this was extra special. One of the children who spent the morning at Pimlico is Maddox, who is 10 and was diagnosed with lymphoma in January. For Maddox, who is in the middle of chemo treatments, and his sister, Finley, this was just the medicine they needed to take their minds off hospital visits and doctor visits. Their parents were able to join in the fun, too, and even stand in the winners' circle!

Another one of our families enjoyed the day as well, bringing along their grandparents to join the tour. When families get quality time together, they can enjoy the little moments and lasting memories that make childhood what it should be.

Thanks again to Charles Fenwick, Jerry Bailey, Terry Finley and all of the employees at Pimlico for making this day so special!

And Always Dreaming now has a host of new fans who will be cheering on a Preakness victory!
