Major League Baseball Umpires Make Right Call for Casey Cares Families!

Posted: Sep 12, 2017

Critically ill children and their families have been enjoying a season full of Major League memories at ballparks in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C., thanks to our amazing partnership with UMPS Care Charities, the official non-profit organization for Major League Baseball umpires.

All season long, umpires made the right call for our kids and families by inviting them for VIP tours on the field and behind-the-scenes views of life in the big leagues! Our kids not only met the umpires, but also Major League players, managers, broadcasters and mascots! And all of our outings included special goodies (think Big League Chew bubblegum), photos on the field and incredible memories.

When a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, their childhood is taken away, and their families do not have the time, energy or money to plan trips to a baseball game, let alone enjoy extra-special treatment. That's where Casey Cares steps in to help these children and their families create little moments and lasting memories.

The Phanatic made a surprise visit with our Casey Cares team!

Stephen, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, got to meet Cleveland Indians Manager Terry "Tito" Francona!   Our Casey Cares kid, DJ, is battling cancer and so is his grandfather. They got a chance to have a special moment together with the Orioles!

Whether we were at ballparks in Baltimore, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., all of our events were a huge hit for our families!

In addition to lifting the spirits of families on the field, the umpiring crew from the Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees series also took time out of their busy schedules to spend a morning with critically ill kids at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. There, they teamed up with Casey Cares as they met with kids and families and we provided new pairs of pajamas to kids who are on extended hospital stays. Casey Cares will provide more than 8,000 new pairs of pajamas to critically ill kids in hospitals, hospices or who are recovering from rigorous medical treatment at home.

Thanks UMPS Care Charities, the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals and Johns Hopkins Children's Center for creating little moments and lasting memories for our Casey Cares families!
