Meet Kevric

Posted: Oct 25, 2016

Kevric is only 7 but already he has faced unimaginable challenges.

Diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) a little more than four years ago, Kevric has been in and out of chemotherapy treatments and hospital stays. His mother, Latangela, is also battling cancer as well, and making matters even worse, an electrical fire severely damaged their family's home in September.

But Casey Cares has come to the rescue, bringing joy to a child and a family who truly need it so much.

Over the years, while Kevric and his family have been battling medical issues, Casey Cares has create little moments and lasting memories --- taking Kevric and his family to laser tag parties, the Maryland State Fair, the movies, Orioles and Nationals baseball games, Monster Jam. and more!  Whether it has been a new pair of pajamas that have provided comfort while recovering from treatment a trip to a big-league game or a weekend getaway to the beach, Casey Cares has made lasting childhood memories that all children should have.

In addition, Casey Cares, through our Hammy's Heart Program, has been able to help Kevric and his family by providing grocery store gift cards. Many of our families face incredible costs due to medical care and often have to choose between paying doctor and hospital bills and food. Hammy's Heart is one way Casey Cares helps out families like Kevric's.

Not long after the devastating fire, Casey Cares connected Kevric's family with Ronnie Stanley of the Baltimore Ravens. "Big Ronnie" as Kevric now knows him, took Kevric and another child in our programs Halloween shopping at Party City in Owings Mills, Maryland. The two boys had an absolute blast running around the store, trying on costumes, buying candy and just hanging out with a professional football player. It was one of those afternoons where Kevric wasn't thinking about blood work or having to spend a night in a hospital bed. This Halloween, Kevric will wear his new Pokeman costume and will be smiling while trick or treating. He is living in a new home while his family's house is undergoing repairs, but he already has a new holiday tradition.

And the giving from "Big Ronnie" didn't end there. The offensive lineman gave Kevric a Ravens jersey and new shoes and, best of all, two tickets to see the Ravens-Steelers game on Nov. 6th!

Ronnie brightened the boys' day as you can see in this video created by Intersport. We guarantee you will be smiling!
