Casey Cares is dedicated to creating little moments and lasting memories for families with critically ill children. One of the programs we provide are vacation getaways for our families because we know how much everyone in a family with a critically ill child needs a chance to escape the daily routine of doctors' appointments and hospital stays.
Shortly after Casey Cares was founded in 2000, we began sending families in our programs on vacations. Over the years, our families have enjoyed quality time together checking out national monuments and museums in Washington, D.C., going to amusement parks such as Hersheypark and Busch Gardens, trips to Great Wolf Lodge, and more!
We were so excited to send 7-year-old Liam and his father, James, on a special father-son fishing vacation. Liam, who is battling a rare form of leukemia called Burkitt's Cell Leukemia, loves to fish but had never been on a charter boat trip. Casey Cares arranged for a five-hour charter boat fishing trip thanks to Captain Mike Sadler of Southern Belle Charters, a two-night stay at the beautiful Inn at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on Kent Island, dinner at the Fisherman's Crab Deck and at Hemingway's and even an autographed copy of the book, Chadwick the Crab by local author, Priscilla Cummings. Liam and James enjoyed their road trip from their home in Shelby, Ohio, to Maryland's Eastern Shore.
What made this vacation even more special is that it marked the 650th vacation Casey Cares has provided to families like Liam's! It is a major milestone, and we could not be happier to have made it happen.
