An Enchanting Performance of The Nutcracker

Posted: Dec 13, 2023

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of our long-standing partner, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM), dozens of families had the incredible opportunity to attend a special VIP dress rehearsal performance of The Nutcracker. This thoughtful gift not only allowed them to witness an enchanting performance but also provided a low-stress environment where they could come together with other families facing similar challenges.

The BTM has been an invaluable supporter of Casey Cares since 2007, donating tickets for both in-person and virtual performances. Their commitment to our mission has touched the lives of countless children, offering them moments of respite and fun.

Alexander Collen, BTM Finance Manager, said, “the BTM strives for is creating meaningful transformative experiences for our patrons and we all really appreciate the responsibility and opportunity to do so for the Casey Cares children and families.”

For kids like Olivia, a 13-year-old bravely battling cervical carcinoma, the VIP dress rehearsal was "a wonderful time and experience. Thank you so much for all you guys do."

Nikolas, diagnosed with  propionic acidemia, and his younger sister Olivia returned to see The Nutcracker after enjoying the ballet in 2022. "We had a great time! It was so special that some of the ballerinas remembered us from last year! Thank you!" said mom Jennifer.

Sun, the mother of kiddo Jimin, expressed that her daughter, "practiced ballet when she was younger before she was diagnosed with JMML. She was little bit tired and thought about going home during first break but she made it to the end of show. She said thank you for all ballerina and ballerinos for their artistic dancing. She thanks you for giving us the opportunities to enjoy the shows!"

Through our Better Together program, families stay connected with Casey Cares for an additional year, providing them with ongoing support and engaging activities to help them navigate their grief journey. Melanie, the mother of Corey, a child who recently passed away, expressed her heartfelt appreciation, saying, "Thank you so much for sending my family to The Nutcracker. It was a beautiful production. The costumes were breathtaking and the dancers were elegant and entertaining! We are grateful for the gift!"

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ballet Theatre of Maryland for their continued support and dedication to making a difference in the lives of critically ill children and their families.
