Making every birthday special
We realize that for a critically ill child each birthday is a special milestone celebrating life. For the children in our programs, it not only marks another year, but it also demonstrates a great achievement. Children begin a fresh new year by receiving a surprise delivery of a toy, flowers, cookies, balloons or gift cards on their special day. This simple act of kindness delivers joy and hope.
Our Birthday Blast volunteers work hard to make sure these gifts are personalized for each child; sending a box of Legos to a child that loves construction, a rose bouquet to a teenage girl celebrating her sweet sixteen, or a bunch of colorful balloons to greet a four-year-old just home from chemo. Working with local florists, bakers, companies, and individuals, our dedicated Birthday Blast team of three long-term volunteers work tirelessly to make sure that each birthday is celebrated uniquely.
Casey Cares celebrated its 1,000th Birthday Blast in 2009 with Justin while he celebrated his 5th! Casey Cares has now grown so large that every year we are providing Birthday Blast surprises to close to 800 critically ill children. What took us nine years to accomplish at first, we now do almost every year.
