What a wild ride 2017 has been for Casey Cares!
This year Casey Cares experienced unprecedented growth. Anywhere you look, we achieved more in 2017 than ever before:
- 20% increase in Family Festivities provided
- 22% increase in Birthday Blasts provided
- 54% increase in Kami's Jammies provided
- 43% increase in total activities provided
- 31% increase in number of families with critically ill kids we served
What is equally important is that the programs we are providing are meeting the needs of our families. It is not just about quantity, but quality as well. Although much harder to quantify, we are providing our families much-needed palliative support.
"When a child has a life-threatening illness, often the first reaction is to focus on the medical care," Casey Cares board member Dr. Aziza Shad, head of the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai in Baltimore. told The Baltimore Sun. "But it's not just medical care that gets a child better. The support mechanisms that the foundations bring here are almost essential."
Why think about the numbers? Because each of our 1,020 families is going through a terrifying journey, and we at Casey Cares, are here to support them every step of the way --- from the moment a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, throughout that child's medical treatment and even beyond.
Growing at a 30% rate means we are supporting not only 250 more critically ill children, but also 250 more moms, 250 more dads, 250 more sisters and brothers. Everyone in a family with a critically ill child is part of our family.
We are serving more families than ever, making little moments and lasting memories for families throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and in parts of the Midwest - reaching families in seven states and Washington, D.C.
