It was a beautiful day of cruising the Patapsco River from the Inner Harbour out to Fort McHenry! Thanks to the generosity of Living Classrooms Foundation and their staff, Casey Cares took 29 critically ill children, their siblings, and their parents out on the 1901 Skipjack Sigsbee for a special Caring Connections Sailing party!
Kids got one-of-a-kind experiences as they were able to hold a crab and oyster, take the helm, learn navigation techniques, design a foil boat for float competition, and hoist the mainsail and jib.
Casey Cares mom Sinmi brought her daughter Layo, diagnosed with sickle cell and reactive airway disease, to the party and said, "We had a blast on the sailing trip! It was an amazing experience for Layo. She went from being scared to board the boat to then hoisting the sail. She was full of smiles! Layo was able to take a turn steering the boat, learning about crabs and oysters. She even built a foil boat and had fun throwing weights on to see if it would stay afloat. Thank you so much for always giving her opportunities to experience new things. This was truly one for the books! Thank you!"
Thank you again to Living Classrooms for continuing to give once-in-a-lifetime experiences to Casey Cares kids! These seemingly little moments truly make lasting memories for critically ill children who undergo challenging medical treatments and lengthy hospital visits. Casey Cares makes an effort to support the intellectual, emotional, and social development of our children through various activities and group parties thanks the support of donors like Living Classrooms.
