Taylor is just 4 and recently was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her world, and her family’s, has been rocked emotionally but also financially as medical bills piling up and other household bills need to be paid. 

Her family just received a grocery store gift card from Casey Cares through our Hammy’s Heart Program, which helps support our neediest families when critical illness strikes.

“She was diagnosed in August and we are still trying to wrap our heads around all of this,” said Taylor’s father, John. “We’ve been in a real tough spot, and we’re not a family that asks for or reaches out for anything, so we have been very grateful whenever people give us anything.”

The family has been weighed down with visits for various treatments at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and doctors’ appointments.

Casey Cares has stepped in, as we will for nearly 800 families throughout the Mid-Atlantic region this year, and tried to provide some smiles for Taylor and her family during this difficult time. We made a movie and pizza night possible for Taylor and her parents and sent them a grocery store gift card to help with household bills. Our families are all facing enormous challenges but for some, the expenses are so big that they have to figure out how to cover costs of medical bills and food- a situation no family should ever have to face.

Hammy’s Heart, which was started in memory of a Casey Cares child named Abraham (better known as “Hammy”) who battled a brain tumor, helps families like Taylor’s.
