Olympic Skating Coach Gives Casey Cares Kids Lessons

Posted: Jan 15, 2016

Our Casey Cares families were treated to a special opportunity when they got to lace up their skates with Olympic figure skating coach Audrey Weisiger at the Fairfax Ice Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

Weisiger, who guided Michael Weiss (of McLean, Virginia) to two Olympic Winter Games, donated her time and expertise, rental skates and even made T-shirts for about a dozen of our kids. The families spent a very fun Friday night on the ice and the evening was capped off with pizza!

Weisiger started the evening by teaching the kids a little bit about warming up and stretching, and of course, how to put on skates. Before anyone set foot on the ice, they walked around the outside of the rink to test their skates. Once the families got on the ice, they didn’t want to leave.

Some of the skaters whom Weisiger trains helped out as assistant coaches, and everyone had a blast. Some of the Casey Cares kids had never worn skates before but by the end of the evening, they were skating circles around the rink on their own!

From a Casey Cares family, “Gavin had a wonderful time and enjoyed getting to know some of the other Casey Cares kids. Your organization and its sponsors have a wonderful impact on families in the DC/Baltimore area, and we feel so privileged to be the beneficiaries of your and their generosity,” wrote Gavin Crupi’s family.

Thanks so much, Audrey, and the staff at the Fairfax Ice Arena, for giving our kids a special lesson they never will forget!
