Today Casey Cares is testing new waters ... literally ... as we hit the Chesapeake Bay with our Casey Cares 1st Annual Rockfish Tournament!
Created by John Sovero, a Catonsville native who is on our advisory board, this tournament has already exceeded our expectations and we just got started this morning! The event sold out and 38 boats went out on the beautiful Bay to go fishing -- all for a great cause in Casey Cares!
The tournament will award prizes for 1st and 2nd place for largest fish by weight and included a Captain's Challenge, a fundraising competition among boats with a prize for 1st place. Bill Judge won the prize for the biggest fish at a whopping 22 pounds. Jason Zagalsky took second place with a 16.35 pounder! The event will conclude this evening with a Captain's Party at The Inn at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville, Maryland.

John has always been very philanthropic in the community. As a business leader in the community with 1st Team Staffing, John has always been proactive and willing to make changes. The same is true with his involvement with Casey Cares. Having spent years working on our Golf Tournament, he wanted to try something new this year and he went all out on this fishing tournament. And you can see he reeled us in hook, line and sinker!"
One of our Casey Cares families, the Buck Family, was able to participate in the event. Kevin, 12, has been diagnosed and treated for a rare disease called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). Kevin and his dad, David, got to have quality time fishing thanks to the generosity of our Casey Cares supporters! Kevin had a blast as he caught his first fish.
