Happy birthday Allen!
In Cincinnati, Allen celebrated his 6th birthday and is Casey Cares’ 70th birthday this year!
Casey Cares knows that for a critically ill child, each birthday is a special milestone celebrating life. For the children in our programs, it not only marks another year, but it also demonstrates a great achievement. Casey Cares staff and volunteers work hard to send out each of our kids a special birthday package through our Birthday Blast program - we send over 1,000 a year. This simple act of kindness delivers joy and hope to our kids who are undergoing treatment.
An Early Diagnosis
Allen was first diagnosed for his congenital heart disease at 14 weeks by the doctors at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Allen’s mother, Amanda, states that, “the doctors noticed that his right atrium was enlarged.”
After he was born, Allen spent his first 7 months in the hospital. Though the time was difficult, Amanda says that her son has made considerable progress and is “now walking and just started Kindergarten.”
Like other parents know, Amanda finds that hospital stays are the hardest part of being a parent to a critically ill child.
“It's difficult especially with [Allen’s] siblings and the guilt with leaving the kids or leaving Allen at the hospital,” Amanda expresses.
Casey Cares + Mickey Mouse
Allen joined Casey Cares in 2021 and has loved participating in over a dozen uplifting programs that were sent to him including Trolls Live and visiting the Cincinnati Zoo.
Amanda states that Casey Cares is great in providing activities for the whole family such as going to, “Jurassic Quest in Dayton or the Coney Light Ice show.”
Allen’s favorite activity was going to Disney On Ice because “he loves Mickey Mouse,” she says. He looks so cool in his Mickey Mouse knitted hat!
