Home run! Thanks to the generosity of the Cleveland Guardians, Casey Cares child Vito enjoyed a special VIP experience with the team! Vito has been battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since he was two years old. In March 2024, he was officially declared in remission!
The five-year-old was walked onto the field by none other than Chris Antonetti, the team's president, watched Guardians players during batting practice, got autographs from the players afterwards, and then sat with his family in VIP seats to watch the Guardians win against the Cubs. The day was particularly memorable for Vito has never been to a Guardians game before and had just celebrated his birthday the day before.
His mother Augustine shares, “Vito and his brother, Max, have been through the ringer the past 2.5 years, not being able to do many of the things healthy kids can for fear of getting Vito sick. Vito is now battling many of the side effects of chemotherapy. He is strong though and excited to start Pre-K 5 this fall.”
Vito's family, lifelong Guardians fans, also shares a special connection to the team.
“Vito's great grandpa sat on a flagpole on top of his business in 1949 for 117 days waiting for the Guardians to win the pennant on a dare of a Yankees fan. So, you can say our family are die-hard fans,” Augustine says.
Thanks to Casey Cares, Vito has been in Casey Cares programs since 2022. With Max, he has attended Blippi Live! and Disney On Ice, received Movie & Pizza Night packages with pajamas, watched the trucks at Monster Jam and more!
