At Casey Cares, we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who make a significant impact on the lives of critically ill children and their families. One such volunteer is Joan Lenczycki, who has been with us since 2016. Every Tuesday, Joan rolls up her sleeves and gets to work, rolling new pajamas and helping with important mailings that keep our programs running smoothly.
Joan has been recognized as a recipient of the 2024 Community Quarterback Award, presented by the Baltimore Ravens and T Rowe Price This prestigious award, funded by the NFL Foundation, the Ravens Foundation, Inc., and T. Rowe Price, honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to their communities. We are incredibly proud to see Joan receive this well-deserved recognition! As an award recipient, Joan watched the recent Ravens vs Philadelphia Eagles game, received a personalized Ravens jersey, and a grant to Casey Cares!
Joan plays a crucial role in our Kami’s Jammies Program, which sends fresh, clean pajamas to hospitals across the nation for critically ill children. Each pajama set must be tightly rolled to ensure it remains intact during transport. By the end of this year, Joan will have rolled over 30,000 pajamas, bringing comfort and smiles to countless children. Her attention to detail ensures that every set is perfect for our warriors, whether they are in the hospital or homebound.
Joan’s commitment to our mission has never wavered, even in the face of challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she adapted her volunteering efforts by wearing masks and gloves to prioritize cleanliness while rolling pajamas. Today, she continues to follow safety precautions in our office, ensuring that all pajamas are ready for delivery.
On the rare Tuesdays when she isn’t focused on pajamas, Joan takes on important mailing tasks. She prepares thank-you notes for our program sponsors and donation requests for community members. These mailings are essential for funding our year-round programs and reaching even more medically vulnerable kids.
What makes Joan's story even more inspiring is her personal connection to the cause. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, she understands the emotional, mental, and physical toll that illness can take on children and their families. This experience fuels her passion for volunteering and deepens her empathy for those we serve. Joan exemplifies the true spirit of philanthropy, dedicating her time and effort to ensure that every child receives the comfort they deserve.

I’m truly humbled that I am able to receive this honor for doing what needs to be done for the sick children in hospitals and treatment centers. I certainly enjoy time spent at Casey Cares working with other volunteers and staff. Our work there is helping the little ones get through a tough time in their lives. Thank you again!"
