Remembering Kami

At Casey Cares Foundation, every child who becomes a part of our family leaves a lasting impression. One child we remember is Kamryn Lambert, otherwise known as Kami. Though her time with us was far too short, her bright spirit continues to inspire acts of kindness and comfort through a special initiative close to our hearts—Kami’s Jammies.

Kamryn was born on October 10, 1998, and faced more challenges in her young life than most ever will. Diagnosed with leukemia, she spent much of her childhood bravely battling her illness at University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. Despite her diagnosis, Kamryn never let go of her smile, energy, and joy.

Through Casey Cares, Kamryn experienced joyful escapes from her treatments and hospital stays. She cheered on the Terps at a University of Maryland football game, reveled in the excitement of a Terps basketball game, and felt the thrill of live action at the Nuclear Cowboyz show. This is just a handful of the memories we got to provide her and her family.

Kamryn passed away on September 5, 2007, just a month shy of her ninth birthday. Her absence is deeply felt, but her legacy lives on in a powerful and meaningful way.

Kami’s Jammies was created in her honor—a heartfelt pajama drive that provides cozy sleepwear to critically ill children in hospitals and treatment centers. Kamryn loved wearing fun pajamas during her hospital stays because they made her feel a sense of joy and normalcy. Now, every pair of pajamas collected through Kami’s Jammies carries her spirit forward, wrapping another child in warmth and love.

Each April, we renew this mission with passion, knowing that Kami’s memory is not only preserved but actively lifting up others who are facing their own battles.
