Sarah Casselberry
Sarah has been a runner for as long as she can remember. From her days on the elementary and high school track teams to completing her first marathon in 2022, running has always been part of her life — but it took on an even deeper meaning after her daughter’s diagnosis in October 2021.
In October 2022, Sarah ran the Marine Corps Marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), channeling her emotions into every step and raising over $4,000 alongside her husband. “Running a marathon for LLS gave me something to put my emotions into,” she shared.
For Sarah, running is a rare chance to escape life’s daily chaos. “It’s freedom from the rest of your life. No chores to do, lists to check, homework to help with, dogs to take care of. Just you and the road and your breath.” She never hits the pavement without her trusty Goodr sunglasses, and she’s quick to offer encouragement to new runners: “Go slow. You can never, ever be too slow. Forward is a pace.”
Sarah learned about Casey Cares through a social worker at Walter Reed, and she’s enjoyed being part of the 5K ever since. “We love running, and it’s a great way to give back to an organization that has brought our family joy since 2021.”
We’re so grateful to have Sarah and her family as part of our Casey Cares 5K community. Whether you’re running for fitness, for fun, or for someone you love — every runner has a reason.
Join Sarah and hundreds of others at our 5k on Saturday, August 2nd, at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Whether you walk, run, or cheer from the sidelines, every step helps support critically ill children and their families!
