Natasha Blount
For Natasha, running started as a simple way to get in shape as a teenager. It quickly became something she enjoyed because it did not require coordination, equipment, or a ball, just the motivation to get moving.
“I liked that I could do it anywhere, anytime,” Natasha shared. “There are no rules, and I also really enjoy the alone time.”
Whether she is running or walking, there is one thing Natasha always needs: music. It keeps her going and makes the miles more enjoyable.
Her advice for someone new to running or walking is simple but meaningful: do not compare yourself to anyone else.
“Don’t worry about how fast other people are going,” she said. “Focus on yourself. You are your only competition.”
Natasha first learned about the Casey Cares Foundation while searching online for volunteer opportunities. When she discovered the Casey Cares 5K, she was drawn to the mission behind the race.
“The idea of running early in the morning in the hottest month of the year is not ideal,” Natasha said. “But I love that this particular race benefits kids who need our support. That is what motivates me, and it is why I recruited my coworkers to do it with me.”
For Natasha, participating in the Casey Cares 5K is about more than crossing the finish line. It is about showing up for critically ill children and their families, and encouraging others to do the same.
