James Mahoney
For James and his wife Brigette, running and walking have always been about more than just movement — they’re about wellness, connection, and exploration. While they’re not running regularly right now, both have gone through seasons where lacing up for a run was part of their daily lives. “We’ve always been drawn to it for the physical and mental health benefits,” James shared, “and for the challenge of trying something new.”
Now, walking is something they enjoy as a family — a way to explore their surroundings, spend quality time together, and stay active with their kids.
For James, the most rewarding part of running or walking is hitting those milestones. “Meeting a challenging goal and seeing your body do things it couldn’t before — that’s the best part.”
His running and walking essentials? Music and a changing landscape to keep things interesting. And his advice to newcomers is simple but powerful:
“Start small and build up your goals over time.”
James and Brigette first learned about the Casey Cares Foundation during their son’s treatment for ALL. The mission quickly became personal, and when they saw the opportunity to participate in the 5K, it just made sense. “We thought it was a good cause to support and a fun challenge for our family,” James said. “Plus, we love exploring the zoo!”
