Michael’s Special Movie and Pizza Night
At Casey Cares, we know that sometimes the simplest moments can mean the most. For families caring for a critically ill child, especially when a child is immunocompromised, experiences at home can provide comfort, connection, and a much-needed opportunity to make memories together.
Recently, we sent a special movie and pizza night to 4-year-old Michael, who likes to go by “Mick Man.” Michael is battling Wilms tumor and was initially diagnosed this past February. He and his family joined the Casey Cares family in April, and while they are still new to our programs, they are already feeling the love.
For Michael and his family, their movie night was a chance to slow down, spend time together, and enjoy a fun evening at home. His mom shared that the family put on their shirts, made popcorn, and watched How to Train Your Dragon together.
“I wanted to share with a few pictures with you. We finally did a family movie night. We put the boys’ shirts on, had popcorn, and watched How to Train Your Dragon! Thank you so much! It was a great night! Michael had a lot of fun and so did his brothers.”
These moments are especially meaningful for siblings, too. A movie and pizza night gives the whole family a chance to feel included, laugh together, and enjoy time away from the stress of treatments, appointments, and hospital visits.
For Michael, his brothers, and their family, it was more than just pizza and a movie. It was a night of joy, comfort, and togetherness, the kind of little moment that creates a lasting memory.
We are so grateful to be able to provide experiences like this for families like Michael’s and help bring smiles during difficult times.
