Grace Cabrera
Grace’s running journey began as a step toward recovery. After tearing her ACL playing soccer, running became a necessary part of her rehab. But what started out as a requirement quickly turned into something more.
“I started running in 2023, a year after my surgery,” she shared. “It began as rehab, but it gradually evolved into something I was passionate about and wanted to get better at.”
What Grace loves most about running is that it’s a personal challenge — a true competition with yourself. “No one influences your time except for you,” she said. “If you want to improve, you have to put in the work.”
Her running must-have? Her Shokz headphones, which help her stay focused and in the zone.
To anyone just starting their running or walking journey, Grace offers simple but valuable advice:
“Consistency matters more in the beginning than miles or pace. If you can be consistent from the start, it’ll be easier to stick with it in the long run.”
Grace first heard about the Casey Cares 5K through a family friend who was putting together a team. She joined not only to support an incredible cause, but to connect with new people.
“It’s a great cause — and a great way to meet new friends,” she said.
