Susie Fahey
Susie’s running journey began with love and support — when her sister-in-law decided to run a marathon while her husband was deployed, Susie laced up and joined her. What started as solidarity quickly became a source of strength and peace.
“For me, running is the only time when my brain shuts off,” Susie shared. “I can’t think about work, family, or anything else — I just focus on my breathing and the run.”
These days, she never runs without her Garmin watch, keeping track of every mile and moment. And while running may not get easier, Susie says it absolutely gets more rewarding.
“Running is really hard. Stick with it. It doesn’t get easier, but you become healthier — and you start looking forward to it. Whether you finish a 5K or a marathon, the feeling is the same: complete exhilaration.”
Susie and her family were introduced to the Casey Cares Foundation during a very personal time — when their daughter was an inpatient at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. A social worker connected them to Casey Cares, and the impact was immediate.
Participating in the 5K is now a special tradition. “It’s a small way we can give back as a family to an organization that has brought so much joy to us,” Susie said.
